As you work for SEO, you must remember famous seo expert quiz created by seomoz back to 2007, right? Do you still remember what was your first time score, were you newbie, master or even DARKLORD? Well, today, Seomoz rolled out a Keyword Research Quiz for you to test your keyword research knowledge and of course, to have some fun at the same time. Unlike massive number of 75 questions in seo expert quiz (and it said only to take 10 minutes to finish..grrr, 8 seconds for one question), Keyword Research Quiz has only 17 questions, I am pretty sure you will be able to finish them within 5 – 10 minutes. Have some fun
keyword research test
It is yet another typical effective linkbaiting strategy, fun + knowledge testing + badge! According to the data analysed in backlink analysis tool, total 762 backlinks were found linking to seo expert quiz page, 261 of them were from the badge. Very impressive, isn’t it?
I have just finished the quiz test, and score was 82%, not that satisfied because I spent quite a lot of time on keyword research. So here I am going to share the questions that I had wrong answer.

Q2. Which of the following keyword research tools does NOT show trends for search query volume
My answer was Keyword Discovery, because I haven’t really used it before. The correct answer is surprised me though, it was Google’s Adwords Keyword Tool. Well, it’s a mistake, because it can definitely show the trends in Adwords Keyword Tool. To show trends in the column, just pick “show search volume trends” in “Choose columns to display”, here is the graph.
[update: MikeTek pointed out the mistake already in the comments, and question is fixed]
Q6. The statements below describe keyword search demand trends. Select the answer that is NOT accurate.
My answer to this question is based on guess, because all 4 options seemed to make sense to me. And of course, my guess was wrong, guess work never worked for me :S.
The right answer is “Since 2000, searches in the United States have (on average) increasingly contained more words per query.” Hmm, interesting, and it seems to be true, and people did start using long-tail keywords more frequently to find more accurate results. The quiz answer also added the source, the report indicated search queries getting longer and longer. But WAIT A MINUTE! Wasn’t it supposed to be NOT accurate? Maybe I have to go back to school to have another english course?
After few minutes thought, I guess I got it. The quiz said “since 2000″ and the report only indicated the trends for 2008 and 2009, it was NOT accurately because there is no data from 2000 – 2007.
Q16. Which of the following keyword phrases was the most popular search at Yahoo! in 2008?
This question had completely beaten me, lol. I just simply don’t know the answer, and I want to make little excuse that Yahoo’s market share is much lower in the UK than in the US. Well, the 4 options were “World of Warcraft”, “Paris Hilton”, “Britney Spears” and “Google”. There is no way that “google” woud be the top search on Yahoo, so it is a easy one to get rid of. Then World of Warcraft, I guess the folks who play WOW would rather go to wow forum? So this one was thrown to the bin too. Now only “Paris Hilton” and “Britney Spears” left, both of them are very famous (infamous?), then I guessed “Paris Hilton” because every single time I think about Britney’s bald head, I feel weird. But obviously, as I said, guess work never works for me, the right answer should be “Britney Spears”
By the way, I have to mention Q17, which tool is most useful for conducting keyword research, the options were so funny. You have to do that question.
Thank for such a fun and knowledgeable quiz, seomoz. What’s are you still waiting for? Do the quiz then post your score in the comments and share your thoughts on the quiz.
