How I won a copy of “Web Analytics 2.0″ from Avinash
This is an interesting story. Few weeks ago, Avinash posted an entry on his blog talking about Web Analytics 2.0 started selling in retail shop now. Apart from brief introduction of 14 chapters in his book, Avinash held a contest for his readers.
Here was the question, “If you were to measure the success of a company’s social media efforts how would you do it?“. The rewards were wonderful, a pack of seven well-known books of online marketing and social media. Avinash stated that the most innovated and interesting answer will win, and I decided to give a try.
People who know me know that I am not a big fanboy of social media, it is indeed powerful, for some of the industries and companies, but there is not yet a way to measure it accurately, i mean, figures. Take an example, twitter, it is either an another shouting platform or a distraction from your work (if conversation happens often). I know social media is a new thing to the entire world, and we are on the way to explore more of it, but for now I am just not totally convinced by it yet.
Apparently I am not able to give some very insightful opinion like other social media gurus do, but I can use another interest way to answer it. Here was my answer, “If my boss won’t fire me six months after I start social media campaign, then I would say I successfully measured it.” Nobody cares final outcomes more than your boss, they want the money and success! To my surprise, but not too surprised, Avinash sent me an email said although I didn’t win total 7 books, but he would send a copy of his book “Web Analytics 2.0″ to me as he rated my comments the funniest and perhaps the most incisive.
