Online Marketing Inspiration From O2 Free Mobile Simcard Campaign

I started using O2 service since I came to UK in 2004, the reason that I had chosen O2 was because it was the sponsor of Arsenal football team. 5 years later, after having enough time of weak signal in London and poor customer service (refused to send me a PAC number unless I could post a request letter to them, which I did, but I never received my PAC number), I decided to compare online mobile offers to get a new number, either Pay As You Go (top-up) or Monthly Contract.

Soon I made my decision to choose PAYG rather than monthly contract because I don’t really need a new mobile to replace my blackberry. I searched three major mobile service providers for free sim card, which were Vodafone, Orange and O2, (yeah, damn, I still couldn’t forget O2) and here were the results. Guess which service did I finally pick?

As you work for SEO, you  must remember famous seo expert quiz created by seomoz back to 2007, right?  Do you still remember what was your first time score, were you newbie, master or even DARKLORD? Well, today, Seomoz rolled out a Keyword Research Quiz for you to test your keyword research knowledge and of course, to have some fun at the same time. Unlike massive number of 75 questions in seo expert quiz (and it said only to take 10 minutes to finish..grrr, 8 seconds for one question), Keyword Research Quiz has only 17 questions, I am pretty sure you will be able to finish them within 5 – 10 minutes. Have some fun :D

It is yet another typical effective linkbaiting strategy, fun + knowledge testing + badge! According to the data analysed in backlink analysis tool, total 762 backlinks were found linking to seo expert quiz page, 261 of them were from the badge. Very impressive, isn’t it?

I have just finished the quiz test, and score was 82%, not that satisfied because I spent quite a lot of time on keyword research. So here I am going to share the questions that I had wrong answer.

In the world of Web 2.0, instead of the voice of website owner, customer voice becomes more and more important. Webmasters realised the necessity of customer satisfaction and many of them are yet to find out how to track and measure it. According to Avinash Kaushiv’s invaluable book -Web Analytics 2.0: The Art of Online Accountability and Science of Customer Centricity, he pointed out the importance to analyse the voice of customers in his multiplicity strategy. So what is this yet another free online survey tool?

As long as you know a bit about Affiliate Marketing, you must have read Dennis Yu’s guest post on TechCrunch – How To Spam Facebook Like A Pro: An Insider’s Confession. Dennis Yu, as so called “affiliate industry insider”, who has a business website blitzlocal.com was called out by Jeremy Schoemaker(aka shoemoney.com) Basically, as Jeremy Schoemaker said, Dennis Yu was trying to fool the industry, many big names were involved, the top seo brand “SEOmoz”, tech mammoth “TechCrunch” and many others.

Yu, is a Chinese surname, it has different meaning by different characters (same pronunciation), one of the meaning is “Fool”. He seems to be really smart and fooled many big players in the short term, but as a long run business, he paid his reputation and he is done in this industry. Jeremy is really pissed off this time, you can feel the rage from his super lengthy post.

Let’s see what happened between Dennis Yu and Jeremy Schoemaker according to Schoemaker’s post. (I am not insider and I decided to trust Jeremy due to his reputation and many other voices)

Is Google intrusive in the sense of collecting user data?

We all know that Google did a good job on collecting user data in order to improve user search experience, I am really appreciated their work. But from point of view of a company who has large user data, there is a big concern that Google can somehow collect these data. Is Google really instrusive to other companys’ user data?  Or we are just worried too much.

Is google intrusive to user data?

Is google intrusive to user data?

Recently, I was trying to convince one of my clients to implement Google Analytics code as an additional tracking solution to the existing third-party tracking application, as I was not familiar with that third-party application and I was really keen to use Google Analytics for analysing user search behavior accurately.

But their director of IT was very cautious about Google because he read something negative (I don’t know what it is) about Google in terms of data collecting and hence he felt Google is intrusive to precious user data of the company (few millions).

I did a bit of research on searching anything negative about Google data collecting via Bing.com but didn’t find what I was looking for. So I posted this question on Linkedin, here is the original copy:

How to find paid search keywords that customers really use

This is a post about paid search in SEM. How do you know if your paid search keywords are really used by customers? Do you know there is a big chance that you are wasting money on Google Adwords for useless keywords and you don’t even know? You might say this to against me, “We have well-organised Ad groups with two-words and three words phrase-match keywords that have high quality scores. We also put some negative keywords that prevents irrelevant clicks, the Return-on-Investment(ROI) is positive, therefore we are satisfied.” Well, you did a good job, but you could do a BETTER job if you know exactly what your targeting audiences are searching.

customer's exact google search query

customer's exact google search query

Most of the Google Adwords advertisers have two things in common:

1. Start a new campaign with Brainstorming some keywords and then use Google Adwords Keyword Tool to expand the keywords list, it will more or less contain some guesses even if they are experienced. (I will explain why experience is not always working later)

2. Don’t know how to track exact paid keywords that customers use.

In order to better target right audiences and understand their search behaviors, you have to know what search queries your customers type in search engines.  So let us resolve these two problems one by one.

It is nearly two years since I first touched Google Analytics and I’ve been in search engine marketing industry for approximately one year. I never call myself a Google Analytics expert, not only because I am not experienced enough in online marketing industry, but also due to massive data it provides and there are so many ways to analyse.
